SD cards could be replaced by UFS

Postby chuckt » Thu Jul 07, 2016 8:29 am

Samsung's blazing fast UFS storage cards could replace micro-SD media

"Users will be able to read 5GB of data -- or a full high-resolution movie file -- in 10 seconds from a UFS card, Samsung claimed. A UHS-1 micro-SD card would take 50 seconds to do the same. "

"Cameras are now shooting 4K video, and UFS cards can be as fast as internal storage, with the ability to extract and write video without lagging. That is something micro-SD cards struggle with, especially in top-line cameras. "

All this may be true but I have several devices that use SD/microSD cards and I'm not ready to replace any of them yet. Seems not too long ago when all my devices used Compact Flash! Anyone remember that monster? :o

My main camera, and the one that produces the best images because of the objective lens, is a Nikon CoolPix 8800 VR, old yes, but you don't easily loose those cards.

I had all but forgotten about them. My first digital cameras used them. I used to have readers in printers and other devices for them. But realized I haven't even seen them in a while.
