Re: electronics engineer question
I'm using DipTrace 4.x, full version. That's the one I moved OFF my Gaming PC. Now I am going to put it back on there. Perhaps on this laptop as well.

Re: electronics engineer question
I'm not sure. When I worked at Parallax, we used 3.x, but once I got back to it, I upgraded. No particular reason why. They sent me an upgrade offer and I just went and did it.

Re: electronics engineer question
Let me know what you find out. Tomorrow I am going to re-install on my main PC and get that schematic done by Saturday morning.

Re: electronics engineer question
So, I keep forgetting to post this. It's really just the reference schematic, with the extra LEDs added, and two transistor circuits to control which color bar is on. You need only bring one input high to turn on the color you want. The LM3914 will automatically adjust the current for each color since they have different forward voltages.
You could simplify the inputs by using a SPDT relay. Green input to the NC on the relay, Red input to NO, and COM to 5V. The default color would then be green and activating the relay would switch to red. You could also do it with a single inverter or transistor, but the 2-input method has the advantage of having an "OFF" mode.

First off thanks for the circuit, will try it. Wouldn't a SPDT relay be needed for both? I thought the SPST only had 2 pins not inc the coil.

Re: electronics engineer question
Sometimes I type faster than I think. Yes, I meant SPDT and I edited my message. When in doubt read my wiring instructions. They clearly call out an SPDT since I mentioned the COM, NC and NO connections. I hope this helps.
