Some low level Micro Processor Assembly programming .... Here is a method to "trick out" a 13th input on a PIC16F54 micro and also create a pseudo interrupt / data latch. Once you setup the OPTION register, all you need to do is monitor TMR0 to see is it contains something other than a Zero or look for a specific number of pulses or counts within TMR0 .... your choice depends on the application.
Note: This method should work on other processors with a similar OPTION configuration.
